What’s A God Hunt? If you’ve ever had days when you wondered, Is God doing anything around here?, you’re in good company. Elijah’s servant had the same question. In 1 Kings 18:41–45, Elijah sends him to look toward the sea for rain. The servant comes back with the ancient equivalent of, “Nope. Still nothing.” Elijah sends him again. And again. Seven times. Finally, on trip number seven, he spots it: a tiny cloud the size of a man’s hand. That tiny cloud was the beginning of a miracle. Then, in 1 Kings 19:11–15, God shows up again, not in the wind, not in the earthquake, not in the fire, but in a whisper. A whisper so soft you’d miss it if you weren’t paying attention. Those two stories became real to me in the most unexpected way when my church did a Lenten devotional, for the 40-days before Easter. The Day the God Hunt Began When I opened the devotional book, the call to action at the end of each day was what they called “God Hunt.”I thought it was a cute metaphor. It wasn’t. Every day, we were to look for three things God did or ways that He revealed Himself to us. I remember thinking, Three? Easy. God is everywhere. Spoiler: It was a lot harder than I thought. That first day, I had to look so hard I felt like I needed spiritual binoculars. But then,there it was. A moment of peace that came out of nowhere. A conversation that lifted my heart. A tiny provision I didn’t even know I needed. Small clouds. Gentle whispers. And suddenly, I realized the issue wasn’t that God wasn’t moving. The issue was that I wasn’t noticing. The God Hunt Will Ruin You (In the Best Possible Way) Once you start hunting for God, you can’t stop. It’s like spiritual treasure-hunting. You begin noticing: And Here’s The Surprising Part: The God Hunt slowly turns into a conversation, and you’ll start saying things like, Before you know it, your day becomes a running dialogue with God. Not formal. Not fancy. Just real, ongoing prayer woven into the ordinary moments. Why Go On a God Hunt? The God Hunt changed my life. It taught me that God is not hiding. He’s inviting. Whispering.
